Hey everyone! My name is Serena Trimmier and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, which means I help individuals and families find ways out of suffering or confusion and into wellness. People come to me when they are struggling with things in their life and want to feel better. My style of working with people is to be real and keep therapy down to earth. In sessions, I use compassion, insight and empathy in addition to my education and training to guide your healing. My belief is that therapy should not be a mysterious process. I believe that you have the ability to get better. Sometimes we just need a little help; sometimes we need a lot of help.
I work with adults of all ages, college students, women who are pregnant or postpartum, couples who are bringing children into their family, and people who just want to feel better. I have a particular passion for working with moms and families to heal from the difficulties of depression, anxiety, and other mood changes that can happen during conception, pregnancy, miscarriage, loss of a child, birth, and postpartum. While I am highly trained in this subject, I also have experienced my own journey of loss, fertility struggles, and challenges in postpartum, so I get it too.
I balance the counseling process with creativity and humor, along with practical solutions and concrete goals. I am eclectic in my orientation and offer a holistic, integrative approach to client-centered, strength-based therapy, using evidence-based psychotherapy techniques. I am an EMDRIA trained Level II EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapist and specialize in Perinatal Mental Health and Reproductive Trauma. As an EMDR trained therapist, I help clients overcome negative self-beliefs, fears, phobias, traumatic life events, complicated PTSD, as well as manage pain and enhance performance in a variety of areas. Additionally, I am an advocate for incorporating creative expressions through music, drawing, painting, movement, or art-making that enhances relaxation as part of trauma intervention, self-discovery, and stress reduction, as desired by my clients.
Every hour with each client has shown me the true tenacity of the human spirit – that we triumph and warrior on, throughout the most punishing and painful parts of this journey we call life. It is my deep passion to develop resiliency and empower each client to withstand distress, break free from old destructive ways of being, and develop their sense of self so that they can find healing and strengthen their identity.
